A message to my students and their parents:
Students and Parents,
Spelling practice has changed drastically from memorizing a work list to understanding the rules behind the spelling of all words.
ie: rule "ck" is only found at the END of one-syllable words when the vowel is short.... "pick" is one syllable and short i sound.... bake: yes it is one syllable, but it is not spelled with a "ck" because the vowel sound is long (says it's name). 3rd grade won't have spelling tests because their isn't one list to 'study'. What is more important is the application and transfer into their writing for all words that follow each rule the students learn.
