Helena is the state capital of Montana. Billings is the largest city in Montana. The abbreviation for Montana is MT.

Residents of Montana are often referred to as "Montanans." The unofficial nickname of Montana is "Big Sky Country" and/or "Treasure State." The state song is "Montana."

Montana's state bird is the Western Meadowlark. The state flower is the Bitterroot and the state tree is Ponderosa Pine.

Idaho, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming are bordering states of Montana. The Yellowstone River and the Missouri River are both major bodies of water in Montana.

Montana's major industries are farming, cattle ranching, mining (gold, silver, oil, lumber and tourism.

There were 164,627 K12 students in the Montana public schools in 1996. Out of those students 12,706 were first grade students. There were also 10,268 K12 public school teachers in the Montana public schools system. There were a total of 892 Montana public schools in 1996.
