7th Grade Vocabulary and Spelling Word Lists
VocabularySpellingCity offers a wide range of free 7th grade spelling lists and vocabulary words. Teachers can import seventh grade word lists and assign vocabulary games to students that provide practice with 7th grade spelling words, vocabulary, and definitions. Word lists aligned to several spelling words for 7th grade including sight words, specific subject areas such as English language arts, science, and social studies, and more are available and can be included in teachers’ lesson plans.
Seventh grade word lists include vocabulary from literature, like Jack London’s The Call of the Wild; poetry, like Robert Frost’s “The Road Not Taken”; and plays, like Sorry, Wrong Number. These selections are featured in the Common Core standards literature guide. Middle school teachers can use VocabularySpellingCity’s vocabulary word lists in their lesson plans if these titles are used as mentor texts.
VocabularySpellingCity also provides content-specific vocabulary lists that include seventh grade social studies, seventh grade science, and seventh grade math. Content area specific 7th grade spelling lists can be paired with interactive activities so students can build a better understanding of content and practice seventh grade vocabulary and definitions. Lists are great for use by all seventh grade subject area teachers.
Seventh Grade Vocabulary Instruction
Seventh grade students are expected to develop a more sophisticated vocabulary in order to read longer, more complex text. So seventh grade teachers must create and implement lessons to build students’ vocabulary knowledge. VocabularySpellingCity supplements instruction of seventh grade spelling words and vocabulary through interactive games and activities. VocabularySpellingCity also assists with administering and assessing vocabulary definitions quizzes and tests, reinforcing basics such as 7th grade sight words while also building new vocabulary in more advanced subject areas.
Seventh grade students should be able to use the relationship between particular words (synonym/antonym, analogy) to better understand each word. Students can use VocabularySpellingCity’s Word Study to better understand word relationships. The activity features syllables, antonyms, synonyms, and parts of speech for each vocabulary term.
In seventh grade, students should also be reading different types of text, including informational text. VocabularySpellingCity offers varied content-specific vocabulary lists in different subject areas. Seventh grade social studies teachers and science teachers alike can use an activity like FlashCards to help students build content area vocabulary, and reinforce concepts and spelling words for 7th grade taught in the classroom and content specific definitions.
In addition, seventh grade students should be able to choose among simple, compound, and complex sentences to signal different relationships among ideas. Teachers can create assignments that incorporate grammar skills and vocabulary skills through VocabularySpellingCity’s Paragraph Writing Practice. Seventh grade teachers can ask students to create compound and complex sentences using their vocabulary words. A strong foundation in 7th grade sight words can help students thrive on these activities!
