Wisconsin is abbreviated WI. Madison is the capital and the largest city of Wisconsin is Milwaukee. Residents of Wisconsin are referred to as “Wisconsinites.”

Wisconsin’s state bird is the Robin. The Wood Violet is the state flower and the Sugar Maple is the state tree.

Wisconsin is ranked 18th in population and received its statehood in 1848.

Bordering states of Wisconsin are Minnesota, Michigan, Iowa and Illinois. The Wisconsin River and the Mississippi River are major bodies of water of Wisconsin.

The major industries of Wisconsin are dairy products (milk, butter, and cheese), farming (corn), machinery, paper manufacturing, beer and tourism.

There were 879,259 K12 students in the Wisconsin public schools in 1996. Out of those students 64,925 were first grade students. There were also 54,769 K12 public school teachers in the Wisconsin public schools system. There were a total of 2,069 Wisconsin public schools in 1996.
