List Management

List Management is located within your Teacher Toolbox.

List Management is the place where you can save, edit, publish/unpublish, or delete your lists. Premium Members have the added ability to group their lists!

Note: You must be logged in to view your Teacher Toolbox, access List Management, and add and save your own word lists.

You do not need to be a Premium Member to save lists, but you do need to register for a free account.

How do I create a saved list?

  1. Log into your account.
  2. Select List Management
  3. Select Create A New List.
  4. Enter your new list
  5. Select Save to continue on to the Word & Sentence Verification page.

This step will give you the ability to edit your list as well as allow you to create custom sentences and/or definitions.

Note: All default sentences and alternative sentences will be spoken in a real, human voice. If you add your own custom sentences, these will be spoken in a synthetic (computerized) voice. Also, please note that custom definitions will only be used in games and activities for Premium Members.

You may import any list from any account in VocabularySpellingCity into your own. You must be logged in to import a list.

To import a list, log in to your account, use Find a List to locate the list(s) you'd like to import. Click the "Import" link next to the name of each list you'd like to import into your own account.

Once the lists have been imported, you may customize them through List Management. The changes that you make and save will apply to your list only - they will not affect the original list. Lists can be added or deleted at any time.

List Grouping is a Premium Member feature.

Publish vs. Unpublish: When you create and save a list, your list will automatically be published. A published list is visible to everyone and may be imported. An unpublished list will appear on your List Management page, but will not be available on your homepage.

Common FAQs - List Management

I entered a word list on the yellow notepad on the front page and played some games, but now my list is gone! What happened to it?

Lists entered on the notepad on the homepage may not be saved. If you wish to save your lists, you must log in to your account and enter them through List Management in your Teacher Toolbox.

Are there any limits on lists?

A 51-word limit has been added to all lists due to the fact that longer lists often result in excessive loading times, which can interfere with the performance of our games, tests, and activities.

There is a 300-list limit allowed per account. You may add more lists by opening a second VocabularySpellingCity account using a different e-mail address and password.

How do I change the order in which my lists appear in List Management and on my homepage?

To reorder your lists in List Management, hover over the left column next to the list you wish to move. When the blue arrows appear, click the left mouse button, drag the list to the desired position, and release the mouse button.

Oops! I accidentally deleted a list - can it be retrieved?

No - unfortunately, once a list has been deleted, it cannot be retrieved.
