| Student Record-Keeping Overview |
SpellingCity provides a way for teachers and parents to automatically track students’ results on their tests. The automated grading improves learning by saving the teachers time required to manually grade and record the tests and by providing immediate feedback to students so they can continue their study of the word lists. Like many of our features, this idea was suggested to SpellingCity by our users. Student record-keeping provides a range of benefits depending on your teaching, computer, and student situation. Three examples: 1. One Dallas elementary school has the students use SpellingCity as part of their homework. Previously, the teacher required each student to print a report of their SpellingCity practice tests. The teacher now tracks test results online using SpellingCity's automated record-keeping, without collecting and checking papers. 2. A Los Angeles teacher with five computers uses SpellingCity as a simple way to give and grade spelling tests. After each student finished taking the test, she would walk by each student and record the test result. Now, she relies on SpellingCity's automated record-keeping. 3. One homeschooling
family from Florida builds word lists for their math, history, science,
and language arts studies. SpellingCity provides a method to collect,
practice, review, and assess progress on the word lists. The new
student gradebook makes it simple to keep records for student portfolios
and annual reviews.
How do I activate student record-keeping? First, you must be a registered user of SpellingCity.com. Once registered, when you login to SpellingCity, you should select Student Records on the Teacher Toolbox.
How does it work? Once a teacher (or parent) has paid, the teacher enters the students’ names (they can be imported). Once the student names are entered, teachers can let SpellingCity generate passwords (reddog1532, bigstar1919 etc) or enter their own. When a student selects “Take a Test” using a list from a teacher who has student records activated, the student will have the option of logging in prior to taking the test.
Who can see the test results? The teacher (or parent) who set up the account can login to see the test results of their students. Can a school buy the 5 license pack? Could a family buy a classroom pack? While these licenses are named classroom or family, they are defined by the number of students. So a teacher could purchase a family license if the teacher only wishes to track 5 students. Or a large family with 7 children might want to buy the classroom license for up to 30 students. Examples: - A school grade or group of teachers with 50 students organized in 3 classrooms should buy 2 classroom licenses. What about schools and school districts that buy and manage students on a larger scale? SpellingCity has a "District Option" which allows an Administrator to manage the account. We would be be pleased to discuss it with you in more detail. The steps are:
How do I get started? To get started with student records, you must first login and purchase by clicking on Purchase Licenses. (This link only works if you are logged in). Contact SpellingCity.com with any questions: SpellingCity.com, Inc. |

How much? For a classroom (up to 30 students) for an entire year, it’s $49.99. For a family (up to 5 students), the fee is only $29.99. If you pay by purchase order or check, there is a $20 administrative fee. Large schools and districts order through District Options, the SpellingCity way of sharing students and licenses across multiple teachers and schools.
