Dear Students and Families,
This is a great year to develop our spelling ability in many ways. First, we will be taking weekly Story Word Tests in class, on 4th level High Frequency Words. Then you will study only the words that you missed for future Word Tests. These lists are listed under Sitton Spelling. Second, we will be working with Word Lists from our Houghton Mifflin (HM) language arts practice book. We'll use these lists to review phonics and spelling rules, alphabetize words, syllabication, and use in sentences. With Spelling City, we now have the capability of taking spelling tests for HM on-line at school and at home for extra practice! Third, you will be getting practice on Vocabulary Workshop Words and that is an additional 12 words per week. Finally, many of you will be exploring an extra program for Spelling Bee practice, but more on that later. Wow - we are going to be working with a lot of words this year! Let's take one step at a time and have fun!
