  2. In the Premium Membership overview, you will see the option "Sign me up!"
  3. Select the type of unit and plan you wish to purchase and fill out the order form.
  4. Choose your payment method: credit card, PayPal or purchase order.

If paying by credit card or PayPal, your Premium Membership will be activated immediately and you will be able to begin adding your students.

Setting Up Your Premium Membership

Step One - Adding and Organizing your Students in your account

Adding Students

  1. From your List Management, select "Students & Gradebook".
  2. Select the tab "Students" to go to your Student Management page.
  3. Select "Add New Students".
  4. Add your students, either manually, via CSV upload or batch input.

After you have added your students, you can view your students' usernames and passwords from this area. We suggest printing off a hard copy for your records.

You also have the option to group students. Many teachers teach a variety of grade levels, subject areas, and difficulty levels. Grouping your students is an effective organizational tool for manipulating reports and teaching a variety of students on different scales.

Grouping Students
  1. After entering in your students, select "Create A New Group" from the top of your Student Management page.
  2. Name your group.
  3. Before saving your group, select the students you wish to add to that group. You can have students in more than one group.

Helpful Hints:

Some teachers assign usernames as their students' school identification numbers

If you assign a common username, like Bobby, the system will automatically generate a numeral on the end of the username that the student will have to use when logging in.

Step Two - Creating Word Lists and Groups

In order for your students' records to be collected, you must have lists on your Homepage. You can input these lists yourself or import them. If you are using a popular series, we suggest checking out our List Sharing Forum Thread, as we might possibly already have the lists! If you have not created spelling/vocabulary lists, you can do so now.

Creating lists in List Management is a lot like adding and grouping students.

If you are working with a variety of educational levels and have split your students into groups, we suggest grouping your lists and coordinating the list group names with your student groups.

Step Three - Reading Your Students Reports/Gradebook Viewing Options

By default, your Gradebook view will show you all of your students and the first ten lists from your List Management. If you have more then ten lists in your account and you do not adjust your Gradebook Viewing options, you will not see your students' scores.

Adjusting your Gradebook Viewing options is easy!

  1. In your Gradebook, select "show" from the yellow box of your Gradebook Viewing Options.
  2. Under “Students”, select either “View All” or, to view certain individual students, “Adjust View” (if you select “Adjust View”, check the boxes next to each student you want to include).
  3. Adjust your lists options to show the list for which you wish to see the scores.
  4. Adjust the format option to view the grading format in either numbers or percentages.

Using Your Premium Membership

Next to the Gradebook tab, you can access other important reports about your students’ work:

Student Activity - Any activity that a student does while logged in is recorded in your Student Activity tab. The variety of spelling, word meaning, and vocabulary games will help reinforce students' practice and it will be recorded for you. You can assign it for homework, suggest it for free time, make contests for usages - the ideas and possibilities are endless.

Writing Practice - Sentence & Paragraph Writing activities that are completed while a student is logged in are recorded for you with ease. You can read, comment, and even grade your students' submitted writing assignments.

Customize - The customize tab allows you to customize your homepage message, and also adjust the directions to your students' Sentence & Paragraph Writing activities.

Sharing Licenses

I purchased several units for my school and I need to share the licensing with other teachers. How can I do this?

Purchased classroom units can be shared amongst several teachers. This is a great way for large and small schools to get the most out of their Premium Membership purchase!

  1. Select "Premium Membership & Licenses" from your Teacher Toolbox.
  2. Select "Administer Large Accounts/License Sharing".
  3. Type in the username or email address of each teacher you want to share your licenses with, and click the "Add" button.
Note: Each teacher you add must already have a free membership with Vocabulary and SpellingCity.
  4. The teachers will then appear under the "Shared Licenses" table.

Only the purchaser of the licenses has access to share licenses with others.

What is School Homepage Control?

Schools that would like to control which teachers show up on their school's homepage or determine who can associate themselves with their school can activate School Homepage Control.

To activate School Homepage Control, select this option from your Premium Membership & Licenses overview and fill out the request form.
