Here are three examples of how the automated student grading and record-keeping are helping teachers today.    

1.  One Dallas elementary school has the students use SpellingCity as part of their homework. Previously, the teacher required each student to print a report of their SpellingCity practice tests. The teacher now tracks test results online using SpellingCity's automated record-keeping, without collecting and checking papers.

2.  A Los Angeles teacher with five computers in her classroom uses SpellingCity as a simple way to give and grade spelling tests.  After each student finished taking the test, she would walk by each student and record the test result. Now, she relies on SpellingCity's automated record-keeping.

Answers about SpellingCity's Premium Membership

How do I activate student record-keeping?  When you register on SpellingCity, you'll have the option for a Premium Memberhsip. If you are already a registered user of SpellingCity.com and want to add Premium Membership,  you should login and  select Student Records on the Teacher Toolbox. 

How much? For a classroom (up to 30 students) for an entire year, it’s $49.99. For a family (up to 5 students), the fee is only $24.99.  You can pay with a credit card, PayPal, check, or purchase order. 

Can I get help paying for it?  SpellingCity has become an authorized vendor for Adopt-A-Classroom.org. It's worth checking out.

What about large orders? SpellingCity is pleased to discuss school-wide and district-wide implementations. Large schools and districts would use SpellingCity's District Options, the SpellingCity way of sharing students and licenses across multiple teachers and schools. Phone (954) 357-1150. 

How does Premium Membership work? Once a teacher (or parent) has activated the Premium Membership, the teacher enters the students’ names (they can be imported). When students arrive on SpellingCity, they should login. This will take them to their teacher's or parent's homepage.  All of their SpellingCity activities will be recorded. Their spelling test results will be recorded including the score and the words that they spelled correctly or incorrectly.  

Who can see the test results? The teacher (or parent) who set up the account can login to see the test results of their students. It is password protected and secure.  Some teachers build an additional layer of security by assigning student accounts by numbers, not by name.

Can a school buy the 5 license pack? Could a family buy a classroom pack? While these licenses are named classroom or family, they are defined by the number of students. So a teacher could purchase a family license if the teacher only wishes to track 5 students. Or a large family with 7 children might want to buy the classroom license for up to 30 students. Examples:

- A school grade or group of teachers with 50 students organized in 3 classrooms should buy 2 classroom licenses.
- A school district with 5000 students should order 167 classroom licenses (167 units x 30 students = 5010 students. At $49.99 per unit, the total district's cost is only $2858.57)

What about schools and school districts that buy and manage students on a larger scale? SpellingCity has a "District Option" which allows an Administrator to manage the account. We would be pleased to discuss it with you. Use the contact us form if you'd like us to call you. The steps are:

1. Register as a teacher in SpellingCity (if not already registered).
2. Login to SpellingCity and generate a sales quote. The person who registers will become the administrator on the account. Other administrators can be named once the account is set-up.
3. Print out your sales quote and use it to obtain a purchase order from your school or school district.  
4. Return the purchase order (email, fax, or mail) to SpellingCity and your account will be activated within one business day. Once "Student Records" are activated, the administrator may use the "District Options" tab in the "Student Management" screen to:
   1. Add student records
   2. Share student records with their own school and/or other schools within their district OR share student records with specific SpellingCity registered teachers

How do I get started? To get started with student records, you must first login and click on student records.  

How do schools secure their homepage? Any Premium Member of SpellingCity can become the administrator of a school home page by requesting it on the SpellingCity Contact Us page.  Once implemented, any further requests by anyone to add a teacher to that home page needs to be approved by the Administrator. The approval request will arrive to the Administrator by email with a link to click to approve or reject it.
