pronunciation 2008/06/27 12:08
One of my lists is a list of long o words, spelled with "ow". The word "bow", as in "Put a bow in her hair.", is being pronounced "bow", as in "Take a bow." by the site in the "teach me" section. Is there some way to correct this?

Yes, I know that happens with homographs. I am sorry to say that it is a programming glitch. The way the program is set up, it can only choose one pronunciation, and for now, there is no way around it. We're working on changes, and that is one of them, but it's safe to say it won't be fixed before you finish with this word list.

Sorry.

i assume you teach phonics? until rather good spellingcity site is able to cover this subject more comprehensively long o sounds as in to, too, two, snow, flow, but not owl fowl, foul flower, now; will continue to confound phonetic exponents. How the phonetically correct may help is via a click on the letter/digraph requiring pronounciation.
how such a message is relayed to the site masters is unknown to me.
should any readers know {silent k, short n, long o, short w) I'd be most keen to hear from you. kim
Hi, have fun learning to spell in English and we will play a smart spelling game together. I will post a list of words using sounds I have taught you in school; you test yourself and send me the answers.
