TOPIC: I love the handwriting sheets in ASL!!!!!

I love the handwriting sheets in ASL!!!!! 3 years ago #3061

We are learning ASL (American Sign Language) in our home. I have 2 hands-on learners and so many subjects have come to life with the supplement of ASL in the learning process. For my kids' spelling practice I have been printing out the list in ASL (via the handwriting practice page) and they go through the list signing each word (concrete spelling...you can actually "feel" the word!). When they have finger-spelled a word, they color in the little hands and continue down the list. For my speller with the most difficulty, we sign the harder words over and over, then, when he comes to that word later in his other studies, he sometimes finger-spells the word to see if it "feels" right! I have seen many children use their finger on the palm of their hand to "write" the word for this same visualization, but to me, this way is promoting two areas of learning...ASL and spelling rather than just spelling. What an awesome resource! Thank you sooooo much for making this available!

PS:If anyone is looking for a good DVD to get more ASL practice, signingtimes (I don't know if I am supposed to put a link here on the forum, but it is a ".com" address) has a great practice DVD (plus many others) and many free resources for parents and educators.

You can also get
Fonts 4 Teachers
With the program you can practice with ASL fonts. Besides, I think that site and software belong to Spelling City, too.

I use B)

You can also get the Gallaudet or ASL font free online. Here is the link at lifeprint, an asl online website.

Are you using any online sites to supplement ASL? Here is a very kid-friendly site created by deaf people for children to view and learn ASL. I am an interpreter, homeschooler, and teach a sign class to 4th and 5th graders once a semester. There are some other really good sites. I went to google and put "asl kid pages" in search and found some awesome sites.
