TOPIC: Questions about the SS lists...

Questions about the SS lists... 4 years, 1 month ago #1834

I am very interested in the online availability of Spelling Time in conjunction with SS. Are there plans to put ALL of the lists from all the SS books into Spelling Time?

I currently use SS for both dc. Dd is in Book 2 and has some dyslexic issues. SS has been great for her and ST would be wonderful reinforcement.

Ds 6th grade spells quite well, but I find traditional workbook programs mostly busywork. I started him on SS mid-year and we're just doing the last list on each set of 4 lists because he'd go crazy otherwise. It would be great to have ds be able to this independently with ST. Would that be possible? I'd love it if dd 5th grade could also do it independently, but wonder if she would still need me to write the words on a board in the different colors.

TIA for your help!

I'm glad you're finding SpellingCity's partnership with AVKO/Sequential Spelling helpful! :) More information will follow regarding your specific questions. :)

Pamela,

Thanks so much for your question and your interest in the program! At this time, we will not be adding the Sequential Spelling 1-7 lists into SpellingCity.com.

However, with the Individualized Spelling lists + AVKO membership, you have everything you need to create your own Sequential Spelling lists. I'd recommend that you check out AVKO membership here: www.avko.org/membership if you aren't already a member. And you can view our article on creating your own SS lists here using the resources available with membership (esp. The Patterns of English Spelling, which lists all of the words in the Eng. language by word family) avko.org/free/instructional/how_to_devel...our_own_sequenti.htm

You can also find our general instructions on using these lists here: avko.org/free/spellingcity.html

You mentioned using just the last words in the lists of Seq. Spelling. I'm glad you're thinking about, and reacting to, his frustration level. We have an entire section of the website devoted to customizing Seq. Spelling here if you're interested: avko.org/Essays/customizing_ss.html

I'd actually recommend that you mix up the endings used instead of just doing all -ing words, e.g. Plus, make sure that you throw in some of the embedded teachable moments that are found in the other lists -- the contractions, heteronyms, homonyms, etc.

I also want to let you know about our Engaging Language Kits that are new this month -- these are supplemental workbooks that have word games, creative writing prompts, dictations, proverbs, and idioms -- using words and word families from each of the levels of Seq. Spelling. There is one Engaging Language Kit for each level of Seq. Spelling! avko.org/ELKits.html

Thanks!
