| Dear Parents, |
4th Week of October 2011 |
Writing
Practice is Fun with VocabularySpellingCity Halloween is
coming and it's harvest time! Channel your children's excitement
into creative writing! VocabularySpellingCity provides dozens of
seasonal word lists in our Teacher
Resources section, including a Halloween
and a Harvest
word list. Why not have your children write a spooky story or
harvest poem using the seasonal word lists with our Writing
Practice activities?
Writing is
more enjoyable for children when the topic interests
them...technology also helps. If you haven't explored the writing
exercises, take a minute and see how they work. Use Sentence
Writing Practice to have students practice using words in context.
Paragraph
Writing Practice crosses off each word as it is used, which
students seem to love. Instructions may be customized for your
students through Edit Profile in your Teacher Toolbox. A couple of
ideas:
- Write a spooky or silly Halloween poem using the words
from this week's list. Try to include rhyming words in your poem.
- Imagine you attended the first Thanksgiving feast. Write a
paragraph using the Harvest word list to describe your experience.
Already
have your Halloween activities planned? Then look ahead at the seasonally-themed
lists for use later in the year. Seasonal lists can be used to
generate printable games
that engage students in educationally significant activities that
tie in with holiday celebrations! We are giving
away five Family Premium Memberships to parents who send in
examples of student writing completed on VSC. Just e-mail the
student writing to info@spellingcity.com
before November 4th. Winners will be notified by e-mail by November
11th. Happy
Halloween! John,
Mayor of VocabularySpellingCity info@spellingcity.com |
