Reading at "Just Right" Levels

As a teacher, you know that it is important for 4th grade readers to read books that are at a level that provides enough interest to keep them reading, just enough challenge to keep them learning, and not too much frustration. VocabularySpellingCity notes three popular reading level measurements for each book on the 4th grade literature list. Knowing the reading levels of the books helps you keep your students reading books at an appropriate reading level. Fun 4th grade vocabulary and spelling games help your students learn new words quickly and increase their reading ability.

Fourth Grade Short Stories, Novels, and Poetry

VocabularySpellingCity literature lists include different kinds of literature to read independently or as a class. Your fourth grade students are now beyond struggling with the mechanics of reading and can focus on language and story themes. Whether reading a fictional book, a short story, or a poem, your students can practice these lists with interactive online games or printable fourth grade worksheets from our site.

Common Core State Standards for Literature and Language

VocabularySpellingCity vocabulary word lists for fourth grade include independent reading and poetry selections from the Common Core State Standards literature list. Using these books, students learn skills that help them meet the requirements for both the literature standards and the vocabulary acquisition and use standards. For example, students may work to meet language standard L.4.6. "Acquire and use accurately grade-appropriate general academic and domain-specific words and phrases, including those that signal precise actions, emotions, or states of being (e.g., quizzed, whined, stammered) and that are basic to a particular topic (e.g., wildlife, conservation, and endangered when discussing animal preservation)." VocabularySpellingCity can help your students practice reading, learn new vocabulary, and meet the Common Core State Standards in an engaging, fun way.
